Our website is currently under construction, but we invite you to peruse our pages for helpful information and check back with us daily. The Tibetan Terrier Association of America (TTAA) is a small group of people
whose focus is on the companionship and versatility of the Tibetan Terrier.
While TTAA members continue to enjoy showing at AKC sanctioned events through dual registration (AKC and UKC) and will
continue to do so, they now have additional opportunities for education,
conformation, and performance events. “As a departure from registries that
place emphasis on a dog’s looks, UKC events are designed for dogs that look and
perform equally well" (UKC website, 2012). We embrace the UKC's "Total Dog" philosophy and practice good sportsmanship both in and out of the ring.
We are proactive in our commitment to improving genetic health and funding research. We have a proven track record of asking questions relating to Tibetan Terrier genetic variations whether genotypic and phenotypic; having already backed research for the smooth coat mutation. Less than a year after asking the question, a test for the mutation in TTs is available through VetGen. We have also partner with the University of Minnesota in the hope that we will be able to understand more about one of the most insidious diseases in this breed, lymphoma.
Our Rescue Committee members have been actively rescuing Tibetan Terriers and TT mixes for 5 years, rehabilitating and successfully rehoming all animals. We will continue to be committed to this effort, rescuing without regard to pedigree status. We will never turn away a dog because it doesn't have all the breed characteristics. Also of importance is a commitment to those who would like to bring a TTAA Rescue into their home. Once we receive your application, we will contact you by email and let you know that you are on our list. Forever homes are the most important part of our Rescue work and we do not take your interest lightly.
For
our companion TTAA members, our mission is to provide you with the most
comprehensive and up to date breed-specific research, training and
behavior, and general knowledge articles available. We are currently
populating our database with references on a variety of topics. We encourage you to
contact your Breeder for questions specific to your dog or your dog's
pedigree. If you cannot find
an answer to your question, you may simply fill out the Contact Us
form in the menu to the right. We will do our best to get your
questioned answered by the most appropriate and knowledgeable
individual(s).
